The Green Road

Finally a good note to start on. Reading newspapers religiously is a new habit for me. Was really good to read something positive about Uttar Pradesh.  State authorities recently announced that Unnao is proposed to become the first district to construct an eco friendly road in the next three months. The state has already sanctioned a budget of Rs 18 crore for the pilot project which is expected to be made a norm in the near future.

At present, road construction agencies like PWD and Lucknow Municipal Corporation use only bitumen technology to build roads. this technology requires mining of stones, bitumen and charcoal. The ordinary road is 60 cm thick while the new Eco-friendly road will require just about 48 cm thick layer by using concrete waste, cement, asphalt, fly-ash and mud etc.

If the pilot project of Unnao becomes a hit, the Eco-friendly technology will be adopted by all civic departments in a big way as it is more economical. Apart from many western countries, countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and South Korea are using this Eco-friendly technology which saves on natural wealth, is more durable and costs less. The technology has been designed and approved by IIT Kanpur team.
